This is of course not a new genre and doesn't add anything to the brawl formula, but is nonetheless worth a purchase, simply because this is probably one of the best such games on PC platform.

In a nutshell, this indie game is a really well polished version of a Smash Bros like fighting game on PC. It plays really well with both keyboard and a gamepad, has awesome characters to select from, lots of environmental damage and weapons and is super fun to play with friends. This is of course not a new genre and doesn't add anything to the brawl formula, but is nonetheless worth a purchase, simply because this is probably one of the best such games on PC platform. This game is actually pretty unique in its look. I really enjoyed the variety of random creatures and the cell-shaded like look of the surroundings. It plays like a smoother version of Minecraft and has a pretty unique atmosphere. One exception though. This game is a bit overdue in this concepts and this idea has been done so many other times by other games. There are also tons of mods for Minecraft that would change the look to the same cell-shaded effect and add exotic creatures, so I don't personally see a reason to invest into Creativerse just yet. If you do want to try another Minecraft like game though, give this a go! Check out the gameplay below. No really? Why? Those silly kittens are just pixelated little annoyances that don't seem to contribute to me enjoying the game at all. I was not at all attached to them as I was told I would be (by game reviews from official sources) neither was I entertained by the idea of feeding them day after day, after day. It was simply...mind numblingly boring. I was basically a running cat simulator with an option of chasing rabbits. Graphically, the game looks unique and interesting and the sound adds to the atmosphere, but it is just not fun to play and visually gets quite repetitive too as there's very little else to do. Check out the short gameplay below (which pretty much is what the rest of the game is like) A creepy, but awesome baby. This whole survival genre is out of control. Every Joe and his gramma seems to be making one and releasing it in Early Access (have we actually seen one that's been complete yet?). But of all other games in the genre, Reign of Kings stands alone in one particular feature - it takes another awesome game - Chivalry - and adds the gore and the brutality of the medieval sword fighting. It also adds the ability to become the king (literally of the hill) and even create huge siege of war machines. This is basically the ultimate medieval survival game we've been waiting for and it's just so much more fun than both Rust and Chivalry at the moment. It doesn't take itself too seriously and is just way too much fun to play. Go try it now! There are only a handful games that are audacious enough to take the colours and throw them down the bin. I can probably can only think of one other recent title that decided to go with a black and white colour scheme, but even that game included a later patch that added optional colours. White Night gives you no such option. You play as a detective type person on the search for something or someone inside a haunted house. Not particularly original, but the visual in this game are really unsettling. The ghosts, though not jump-scare scary, are really eerie due to the chroma settings and the variety of special effects that add the uneasiness to everything in the game. All in all, a solid survival horror game, although not sure how the color choice will influence the game's success with the fans of the genre. The year has only started and we already have a bunch of puzzle platformers to choose from. This time, it's about traveling into a black hole...oh wait, that sounds familiar? Anyhoo, you play as a survivor that tries to escape the blackhole world where for some reason jumping into certain types of locations flips your screen 90 degrees, changing the gravity. Hmmm.... well I guess it's kind of original, but haven't we seen this before? All in all, this is a good game, but only recommended for the fans of the genre. Grim Dawn is out on Early access and is available for early purchase, but to be honest, so far I'm not really impressed. It plays like an Alpha of Diablo 3 with really bad performance and somewhat mediocre set of skills/battles and monsters. It better have more to show when the actual game hits the shelves because right now this is a bit underwhelming... Ok, this game came out of nowhere for me. I have never heard of it prior to its release and have never even seen any trailers. But, ohhhh muuh goood, it's soooo goooood! This is the best puzzle platformer in years and is a must play for really anyone. What is this game about? Well imagine someone from Studio Gibli deciding to make a challenging puzzle platformer with amazing music, graphics and storyline and then making it all emotional and actually fun to play. In a nutshell, you play as a tiny rabbit like creature with special powers on the quest to save the forest. Sounds familiar? However, the studio behind this game (Microsoft?? really???) decided to put a lot of effort into making this game perfect. e.g. the short video below shows how fast paced, beautiful yet elegant the gameplay is. You should totally consider buying this title as it's a must play this year. If you've never played FTL or don't know what a rogue-like is you may not really get what this game is all about. But essentially it is both a space adventure and a randomly generated RPG with unforgiving atmosphere of "you lose, you die..forever" and a variety of options in every playthrough. You play as a spaceship on the quest from point A to point B. Except that they're really far apart and you have a plethora of dangers on the way. All in all, an excellent indie title with great music and fun casual gameplay. It's also available on the mobile platforms, but is way way better on PC. Is it fast paced maddeningly insane gameplay you want with various classes, skills and levels? Here you go, install and play Magic Barrage. This epic 2D browser ARPG is no longer just a browser game, it now has Steam client and can be played with other Steam users. It even has awesome Euro Trash-ey music playing in the background and a ridiculous amount of enemies, turning this into a bullet-hell hybrid that's quite unique in this oversaturated ARPG genre. The only other game I can think of that had a similarly crazy gameplay, it would be The Realm of Mad God and even that game wasn't as fast paced in comparison. For a free to play MMORPG with a light undertone, easy gameplay, but that is quite challenging to master, I think there are few other games you could pick instead. Check it out on Steam and watch the video below. |
